How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity.
It is like precious oil poured out on the head,
    running down on the beard,
    running down on Aaron’s beard,

down on the collar of his robes.
It is as if the dew of Hermon
    were falling on Mount Zion.
For there the Lord bestows his blessing,
    even life forevermore.

These are the words of Psalm 133 presented here in traditional Maasai language and music style. The composer and lead singer, Jonathan Kitao simply calls the song, “Unity.” Jonathan and this team of musicians sought spaces where Maasai cultural values and scriptural teaching resonate with each other; they then created traditional songs to reinforce this resonance. We call these “strategic” songs – they are designed to make biblical values and teaching resonate as “local” in the hearts of non-Christian Maasai. The hope is that when Maasai hear the gospel, they will be open to it instead of rejecting the gospel as something “foreign.”

This song was created and recorded in Narok, Kenya as part of a Strategic Song Initiative led by Doug & Mary Lu Anthony in partnership with Lifeway Mission International.

Enjoy!
