Come, celebrate the eucharist! The song, “Taza Ku Misa” is a call to celebrate the eucharist – a remembrance of the body and blood of Jesus Christ. Guitarist and singer, Zonda Mwale leads the New Anglican Church team from Msoro, Zambia in a joyful anticipation of holy communion.
This song was recorded in Mfuwe, Zambia as part of a Kunda Songbook Project sponsored by Partners in Bible Translation. Over 72 Kunda songs were recorded in less than a week as various church worship choirs and teams prepared new songs in the Kunda langauge for use in Christian worship services.
The sense of joy and celebration for the sacrifice of Christ on our behalf is a beautiful thing to watch. I wish I had an English translation of the whole text, but I only have the topic of the song to share with you today.
Yes, the instruments were all made by the musicians who are playing them – the electric guitar is completely hand-fabricated (except for the electronic pick-ups); the bass guitar was made by splicing a long neck and fretboard onto a store-bought acoustic guitar. In live settings the bass guitar pick-up is fashioned from a car speaker pressed against the hollow guitar body – the movement of the speaker diaphragm and magnet function as a large diaphragm microphone. The drum and percussion instrument are also hand-made. I can’t imagine the hours that were required to fashion the guitar necks and frets to play in tune!
Enjoy!
