Today’s song is a setting of Habakkuk 1:1-5 in the Luo language. This song was created by Joseph Agali in order to get the scriptures into the hearts and memories of his own Luo people while they are still awaiting the completion of the first printed Luo Bible. When Joseph overheard other Kenyan musicians creating songs  for a leadership curriculum from Freedom to Lead, he asked if we could help him create and record scripture songs for his native language, Luo.

We were able to record a few of Joseph’s Luo songs during the week and to help him design a process for completing the songs with instruments. In today’s video we give you a taste of the song with only Joseph’s vocal and then cut to the finished version.

A few weeks ago Joseph sent these words of thanks, “I thank God for you. I didn’t know music can be my passion like this. I doubled that passion you created in me and my four songs will now be played in the national radio for the local FM station. I sing scriptures and they encourage me a lot.”

Mary Lu and I are excited that our recent move to independent status allows us to invest more directly in local musicians like Joseph and local projects like this one – projects that can make a huge impact for the gospel among some of the worlds most unreached people. We are pleased that God has allowed us to expand the scope of our ministry while continuing our song development work with Freedom to Lead. Stay tuned to see more new projects!

Enjoy!
